Day 3 Walking Walking Walking
First of all I have to finish yesterday’s story:
After passing through the customs, I just walked in to the arrival hall. But the security there was not tight as what people will think at all, on the contrary the atmosphere there was quite relaxing. You can even see people sit down around tables having their cuppa, Nobody was rushing in and out, nor pushing, yelling, etc bad behaviours which is happening everywhere in our great mother land. What a shame.
Anyway, to me, there were still a lot of things waiting to be done.
The no.1 job was to get a sim card ready so that I can have the direct contact with my love ones, especially my love ONE of course. I’ve done that in probably 15 mins. Then I rang home and told siushan the way of conection. Until now she can contact me without problem, but can only receive calls, since the first few calls I made. I am trying my best to get it fixed.
The next job was to put my plan to real. I planed to take bus to Tel-Aviv Central Bus Station then take another bus to Tiberias. So I looked for the BUS sign. Hey, it was not hard to find, mates. Then I went up to the bus level. As I reached there, I said SH.. it was so big and all the signs at the bus stop are in Hebrew. I was so depressed because it was very hard for me to carry those bulky backpacks running here and there. I always remember my father told me that mouth is on the side of the road. I saw a young soldier with machine gun on his chest standing there. I approached him and asked him for the shortest way to the CBS. I will talk about soldiers with guns later. He was so helpful and friendly that he suggested me to catch a train instead. I followed his and it worked. When we said goodbye, he said welcome to Israel and have a good trip to me.
Before I carry on talking the trip, I like to jump off a bit to talk about soldiers. During these few days, doesn’t matter where you going, you will see groups and groups of young people, male and female, with soldier uniforms. Some of them with guns some are not. Those guns some have got bullet magazines tapping onto. Some of them are just for practice. On the key locations such as bus, train stations, there are always guarded with armed soldiers. And these soldiers, of course they are on duties, are very friendly and helpful, at lease this was my personal feeling. While the other young people with uniforms, they are probably under training. Since in Israel each Israeli people have to be a soldier for a certain period of time ( what is the name for this?). That means when you reckon that they are soldiers, in fact there is no difference between that you can see groups of young people with school uniforms in HK.
OK, let’s go back on track. My goodness, my plan was wrong in the 1st step. But I am not being up set, on the contrary, I am very glad that I reached the CBS with no problem. As I mentioned that there are check points on stations. So when I entered the CBS, your bags have to be opened for inspection. You are also ‘swiped’ by a metal detector to make it sure that you are no harm to the general public. People are queuing up very patiently with very good manner. When my turn’s up, of course it took a bit longer time for him to entertain me. After inspection I asked him if I went to the right place for the right bus. He didn’t understand English! But he said, ‘who speaks English’ ( I though it was). And people jumped up to help. I am so impressed. Now I have confidence to survive in this country. If the 1st one you ask doesn’t speak English, the 2nd, or the 3rd will be able and ready to help.
Hopped on the bus and I was off to Tiberias. And in the bus I got a PHONE CALL from my lovely family. I heard, ‘come quick, talk to dad.’…….. I am very happy to hear supports from you guys.
I did not go all the way to Tiberias, but stopped and hopped off at Nazareth where said to be virgin Mary was informed that she would carry baby Jesus. This message was presented by angel Gabriel….. long story.
Mates, I had to walk with all my stuff, crossing busy main roads, walking along steep road, just like in Sheung Wan, walking from tram station up to Man MoTample (spelling ?)
After more than 30 hours folding my legs up, it defiantly was a hard job to climb with heavy loads. But I made it.
I have visited the largest Roman Catholic church in the Middle East which is the Basilica of Annunciation. On the way I went up there I saw coaches and coaches carrying visitors up there. Near the church, road side shops all selling souvenirs with Roman Catholic beliefs, such as pictures, crosses, etc. But the most amazing thing is that here in Nazareth ; it has a very big portion of residence bearing Muslim background, which I can feel while I was walking up this steep road. Yet the atmosphere which I could feel was quite harmonious.
The photo posted at my last blog was taken here.
After seeing the church I decided to leave. I was going to catch a bus to Tiberias but the problem was it was a mid-way station. How good I can trust my plan which just from the Lonely Planet? If it was wrong, could I reach the hostel on time before it was too late ( too dark). So I hopped on a taxi, after that I found there were passengers already sitting on the back seat. I bargained very hard to make the price came down from NIS 150 to 130. but I was so upset that I spend big bucks on only one trip which, according to the book, was less than 30. Anyway done is done, and I am glad that at last I went to the hostel with one more bridging trip, by bus, as scheduled. Ha Ha.
In the bus station, I met another solo backpacker. She, yes it was she, is a nursing student of Tokyo University . This Japanese girl gets used to go travelling on her own. That means she is quite experience in doing this. Unfortunately her itinerary was quite different from mine. It was no good that I would change mine to suit her. So we said good bye in the bus. I hopped off and she went for hers.
The bus stopped on the main road. I have to walk 2k to the hostel. I think this was a mistake that I booked this hostel. Yet still this is quite a clean organised hostel under the management of the famous YHA.
I checked in then I bought some internet time, which costs me 26NIS for 2 hours so that you guy can read this from my blog.
I had a buffet dinner for 50. It was a good one. Then I wrote the blog. As I was writing I felt in sleep a few times. Send the blog, then slept until woke up without interrupting. The whole sleep is in REM stage.
Day 3
The sleep was broken by the set alarm from the mobile phone. Woke up and rushed to the dinner hall for the buffet breakfast. This was one of the best if not the best breakfast that I’ve ever had provided by a hostel. A lot of varieties of veggie are provided. It was pretty healthy that I’d say. Packed up then went for today’s schedule. As plan I took a bus to the town centre of Tiberias. I went to the Information centre for information. But I could get very little help although this lady was very polite to me.
Then I can only depend on myself with my only knowledge came from the book. I went to the sea shore where the remains of the old city walls were still standing. I went to the sea side square, only small, where a sculpture of the shape of the Sea of Galilee stands. In the midway I was going there I saw a young elderly lady, in her 60, I guess, was sitting on a bench looking at the Sea in a very relaxing manner. I sat next to her and started chatting with her. She was from Jerusalem and came here for holiday. She had American background. So she has dual citizenship like most of the Hongie do. We talked for about half an hour. I learnt a lot of this local history from her. But the most valuable lesson to learn is that interacting with people, doesn’t matter local or foreign is very important in the whole course of travelling.
In the afternoon it was so hot. I caught the bus from the town centre to the first spot on the shore of the Sea of Galilee :
The first boat of Jesus then
The church of Multiplication of loaves and fishs
The church of beatitudes
The church of Primacy of peter, and
Capernaum . In here I saw people dip in the Sea.
Then I started walk back to hostel. Again it was a long walk,
Tomorrow I will be back to Tel-Aviv.
Outside is very noisy. A big group of teens live in this hostel. But I don’t think this is a problem to me. My sleep will be a good one.
